What do midges and chocolate have to do with each other?
So, what do midges and chocolate have to do with each other? Quite a lot as it turns out. Believe it or not, if it weren’t for midges, there would be no chocolate. What a disaster!
Chocolate is made from the seeds of the cacao tree. This tree is found in Central America, South America, Africa, and Asia. When the tree flowers, it needs to be pollinated in order to produce seedpods. However, the highly aromatic flowers are intricate little things that face downwards, and the only creature that can get in there to pollinate them is a species of midge.
So, next time you’re on the beach or in the bush, and you’re cursing and slapping at the midges, just imagine where we’d be without them!
Oh, and of course, if you had applied your Nature’s Botanical Rosemary and Cedarwood Crème, there would be no need to slap at all because they wouldn’t be bugging you!
