I am now ready to get it all adjusted and ready to go. I picked up a new spindle with a 4 inch collar that will accept a 4" chuck with no adapter required.

Upgrading the mini mill with taper roller bearings really worked on this machine, but would have a similar effect on most machines if they are running ball bearings now. What I haven’t tried is just changing a machine that is running cheap taper rollers to a proper set made by SKF.

I recently parted off 2" mild steel, using a 1/16" blade in a quick-change toolholder, no lubricant, just to prove it can be done. I credit the taper roller bearings with allowing me to make cuts like that.
